Obituary: Swedish Mezzo & Manager Malin Gjörup Dies, Aged 56

Norrlandsoperan has announced the death of Swedish mezzo-soprano and manager Malin Gjörup on May 20, 2020, from a sudden illness. She was 56.

Born on April 28, 1964, in Luleå, Sweden, Gjörup was educated at Malmö Academy of Music. As a mezzo-soprano, she has sung at the Gothenburg City Theatre, Riksteatern, and Folkoperan.

Gjörup has served as program manager for the Gävle Symphony Orchestra before she went on to the Norrlandsoperan, where she became opera manager and program manager for their symphony orchestra.

Gjörup is remembered by Norrlandsoperan CEO Gunilla Hägglund Sjöström as a compassionate and committed person, responsible for taking their company in new artistic directions and bringing their work to new audiences.
