By Francisco Salazar

Violinist and Manager Lorenzo Anselmi has died at the age of 87.

Anselmi died after months of suffering from health conditions and a heart problem. The violinist was soprano Renata Scotto’s husband and they lived in Saffi, in the center of Savona, Italy.

Anselmi was the first violinist at the Teatro alla Scala and met Scotto while playing for the Italian theater. They married in 1960 at the Church of Concordia ad Albissola Marina. Anselmi left his career as a violinist to help Scotto’s career and became the soprano’s agent and manager. Shortly after, they moved to Armonk, New York to raise their children.

They remained in New York until a few years ago when Scotto decided to return to Savona.

They were married for 60 years and had two children, Laura, who is a manager of a publicity agency, and Filippo, who runs an opera artists management agency. Anselmi’s funeral will be held at the San Domenico a Savona.
