Obituary: Monic Cecconi-Botella Passes Away at 89

Composer Monic Cecconi-Botella has passed away. She was 89.

Cecconi-Botella was born in Courbevoie, France on Sept. 30, 1936. She studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Maurice Duruflé, Jean Rivier and Henri Dutilleux.

She went on to work as a professor of music theory at the Conservatoire of Aubervilliers. Later she became a professor of music analysis at her alma mater.

Cecconi-Botella composed several operas including, “The Woman of the Ogre,” and “Noctuaile,” with libretto by René David, which won a Grand Prix du Disque. She also wrote children’s operas such as, “Operaclown,” with libretto by René Pillot and “Pirlipipi,” with libretto by Pierre Gripari.

In 1966, Cecconi-Botella won a First at the Prix de Rome. In 2008, she founded the Festival Seasons of the Voice in Gordes, Provence.

Cecconi-Botella died on Dec. 28 2025.
