On Sept. 5, 2026, Mexican tenor, vocal instructor, and choral director Joaquín Ledesma Marquina died at the age of 55.

According to reports the tenor died of a heart attack, while performing on stage at the  Centro de las Artes de Querétaro.

Civil Protection noted that Ledesma Marquina received resuscitation efforts from emergency services personnel from the Medical Emergency Coordination Center (CRUM). According to family members, Ledesma Marquina had a history of heart disease and had previously suffered four heart attacks. Despite the paramedics’ efforts, he was pronounced dead.

Born on April 11, 1971, Ledesma Marquina was a pioneer of opera in Querétaro. He was a founding member of the “Voces Queretanas” choir and was currently leading one of his most recent projects, the inclusive choir Concerttato.

Ledesma Marquina made his European debut at the Staatsoper Stuttgart in Germany during the 2006-07 season. His repertoire included Bach’s “Magnificat,” Rossini’s “Stabat Mater,” Beethoven’s “Ninth Symphony,” and “Coronation Mass,” and Handel’s “Messiah.”
