The Los Angeles Master Chorale has announced the death of tenor Matthew Carlton Miles.

“The Los Angeles Master Chorale family is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Matthew Carlton Miles,” the ensemble said in a statement. “Matt joined the tenor section of the Chorale in 2016 and has been an integral part of the ensemble ever since. He sang in countless unforgettable performances at Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Master Chorale under Grant Gershon, Jenny Wong and Eric Whitacre; and Matt also sang in many Los Angeles Philharmonic concerts under the batons of Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Susanna Mälkki and many other prominent conductors.”

“Matt was a brilliant performing artist as both a singer and an emerging conductor,” the statement continued. “He was also an arts leader in Los Angeles, helping to sustain several organizations as a development and advancement officer, including Classical California, the LA Phil, and the LA Opera. Additionally he was a board member of the Pacific Opera Project.”

Miles is survived by his wife, Alana, and their three children, Michael, Olivia, and Joshua. The Los Angeles Master Chorale will dedicate its Sept. 27 performance of Brahms’ Requiem to his memory.
