
Obituary: Dr. Heinrich Wiesmüller Dies at 90
By Afton MarkayDr. Heinrich Wiesmüller passed away on April 15, after a short illness. He was 90.
Dr. Wiesmüller was a Salzburg-based banker. He was a shareholder of Bankhaus Spängler, as well as a former spokesman of the board and chairman of the supervisory board. Outside of his career, Dr. Wiesmüller was involved with the Salzburg Festival for three decades.
At the Salzburg Festival, Dr. Wiesmüller served as a member of the Supervisory Board (2001 to 2007), a member of the Directorate (1976 to 1985), as an advisor (1986 to 1989), and from 1991 to 1995 as President. Through his positions, he worked to strengthen the Festival’s financial foundation and the inclusion of tourism. He also had a hand in the infrastructure developments such as the transformation of the Schüttkasten into the ticket office with a rehearsal studio under the roof.
He received numerous awards for his achievements, including the Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria, the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art First Class, the Grand Decoration of Honour of the State of Salzburg and the Ring of the City of Salzburg.
Dr. Wiesmüller is survived by his wife Johanna, and children.
