Obituary: Conductor Allin Vlasenko Dies at 83

On Nov. 23, Ukrainian conductor Allin Grigorievich Vlasenko passed away at the age of 83.

The news was made official by the National Opera of Ukraine which said, he was “One of the Best Conductors of the Our Time.”

Born in 1938 in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk, Vlasenko went on to study music in Kharkov and went on to graduate from the conservatory at the orchestral faculty. At a young age, he began his work as a conductor and went on to conduct for 60 years. He was the conductor of the National Opera of Ukraine and gave concerts around the world in England, Japan, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Mexico, and France, among others.

He was also awarded titles such as Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR and People’s Artist of Ukraine. Vlasenko was also an avid teacher who served as a professor at the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after Piotr Illych Tchaikovsky.
