Provost of the Colburn School and former associate dean at Eastman and Cleveland, Adrian Daly has died at the age of 56.
Daly died on August 10 of a heart attack while traveling abroad.
Daly earned his Master of Arts in Music Performance and Literature from the University of Notre Dame in 1991 and went on to receive his Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano from the Eastman School of Music in 1994.
Following his studies, Daly took on multiple jobs at the Eastman School of Music, including Associate Dean for Admissions. Between 2009 and 2015, he served as the dean of the Cleveland Institute of Music. During his time with the school, he expanded its networks in Europe and Asia and launched several new academic programs. He also solidified his commitment to fostering young talent and fostering a flourishing musical community.
In 2015 he was appointed the Provost at the Colburn School.
In a statement, the Colburn School said, “The Colburn community is heartbroken by the sudden and untimely passing of Provost Adrian Daly. Provost Daly believed deeply in the Colburn School and its mission, valued his co-workers, and was passionate about the education and welfare of our students. He possessed a sharp intellect, keen wit, great insight into artistic and administrative matters, incredible work ethic, and a strong sense of fairness–all of which served him and our School so well. No detail was too small or task too big for him to be involved with, and he leaves an indelible mark on our institution. He leaves behind his four beloved children, a brother, and a sister, as well as hundreds of friends, former students, and colleagues around the world who worked with him and admired him. His passing leaves an enormous hole in each of our hearts.”
