Obituary: Baritone Nicholas Folwell Dies

English Baritone Nicholas Folwell has died.

Throughout his career, Folwell sang over 130 roles from a diverse repertoire of composers such as Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, and Wagner. He also sang in many world premieres.

One of his greatest roles was Alberich in Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen,” which he performed at such houses as Opéra d’Angers-Nantes, Den Nye Opera, Opéra de Dijon, Opera North, Scottish Opera, and Welsh National Opera, among others.

He also sang at many of the prestigious opera houses including the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Opera North, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, Grange Park Opera, Opera Holland Park, Oper Frankfurt, Opera de Lille, and Opera Zuid.

Folwell also worked with many important orchestras including London Philharmonic, London Sinfonietta, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
