Norwegian National Opera and Ballet Cancels All November Performances After Employees Tests Positive for COVID-19

By Logan Martell

Norwegian National Opera and Ballet has announced that all performances through November have been canceled.

The decision comes as a result of one of the employees testing positive for COVID, as well as the City Council’s decision to close Oslo beginning next week.

Among the affected events is the company’s production of “The Barber of Seville,” currently halted until December. The remaining performances of pianist Lise de la Salle’s recital series have been canceled.

The Oslo theater is the latest European house to report a COVID-19 outbreak following such theaters as the Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, and Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

Norway has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases over the past weeks with 24,975 confirmed cases and 285 confirmed deaths.
