Northern Opera Group to Release Film Adaptation of ‘Cinderella’

By Francisco Salazar

A new film adaptation of Pauline Viardot’s short comic opera, “Cinderella” is set to be released on Dec. 12, 2020.

The film was shot in the medieval grounds of Calverley Old Hall, and Temple Newsam, the filming location for ITV’s “Victoria.” It was directed by Sophie Gilpin and features conductor Chris Pelly and the Northern Opera Group. Claire Wild takes on the title role.

The opera will be performed in English with a translation by Rachel M Harris.

In a statement, Northern Opera Group’s General Director said, “At a time when opera and the arts are under incredible strain, we’re thrilled to receive the support of Arts CouncilEngland to enable us to not only create opera for audiences and employ artists, but to continue to provide opportunity for our community to sing. Now is not a time to fall back on what we know, but push to make opera exciting and relevant to new audiences in new ways. Our ‘Cinderella’film will be the perfect tonic for audiences this Christmas, and this blend of-location filming with a digital chorus will make for an entertaining and rather special event!”
