Nobulumko Mngxekeza to Headline Cape Town Opera’s ‘Tosca’

Cape Town Opera is set to present Puccini’s “Tosca” this September at the Artscape Opera House.

The production, which opens on Sept. 12, 2023, and runs through the 17th, will be directed by Magdalene Minnaar and conducted by Björn Bantock, who leads the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Cape Town Opera Chorus. The work will star Nobulumko Mngxekeza in the title role. This is her first production with the company.

She will be joined by Lukhanyo Moyake as Cavaradossi and Conroy Scott as Scarpia. Other cast members include Bongani Khubeka, Lonwabi Mose as Angelotti, Van Wyk Venter as Spoletta, and Lwazi Dlamini as Sciarrone.

The production is presented with support from the Judith Neilson Foundation,  the Rupert Music Foundation, and the City of Cape Town.
