Nino Machaidze & Gregory Kunde Headline Teatro De la Maestranza’s 2019-20 Season

Opera
Carlos Chausson, Joan Martín-Royo, Anicio Zorzi Giustaniani, Sara Blanch, and Francisco Escala star in Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale.” Corrado Rovaris conducts the production by Laurent Pelly.
Performance Dates: Oct. 12-19, 2019
Saint-Saëns’ “Samson et Dalila” follows with Gregory Kunde and Nancy Fabiola Herrera starring in the title roles. Paco Azorín directs the production with Jacques Lacombe conducting. The cast also includes Damián del Castillo, Alejandro López, Francisco Crespo, José Ángel Florido, Manuel de Diego, and Andrés Merino.
Performance Dates: Dec. 14-18, 2019
Ann Hallenberg, Matthew Brook, Renata Pokupić, Xavier Sabata, Alicia Amo, João Fernandes, Valeriano Lanchas, Serena Perez, and Antonio Giovannini lead Handel’s “Agrippina” with Enrico Onofri conducting Mariame Clément’s production.
Performance Dates: Feb. 11-15, 2020
The season closes with Verdi’s “La Traviata.” Nino Machaidze and Vanessa Goikoetxea sing the role of Violetta, while Dalibor Jenis and Carlos Arámbula perform Giorgio Germont. Arturo Chacón-Cruz and Matheus Pompeu round out the cast as Alfredo with Pedro Halffter conducting David McVicar’s production.

Musicals and Zarzuela
Bernstein’s “West Side Story” takes the stage in a production by Federico Barrios under the musical direction of Gaby Goldman.
Performance Dates: Dec. 5-14, 2019
Barbieri’s “El barberillo de Lavapiés” will be conducted by José Miguel Pérez-Sierra in a production by Alfredo Sanzol. The production will star Borja Quiza, Cristina Faus, María Miró and Javier Tomé.
Performance Dates: March 18-21, 2020
Danilo Rubeca conducts Emanuele Sinisi’s production of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” for youth with Joan Garcia Gomà, Estibaliz Ruiz, Pedro M. Calavía, Xavi Fernández, Juan Carlos Esteve, Romina Krieger, and Xavier Casademont.
Performance Dates: May. 5-7, 2020
