Nino Machaidze, Asmik Grigorian & Enea Scala Lead Teatro Massimo di Palermo’s 2022-23 Season

Opera
The season opens with the new creation “Kaiserrequiem” by Omer Meir Wellber and Marco Gandini. The work, which unites “Der Kaiser von Atlantis” by Viktor Ullman and the Mozart’s Requiem will be conducted by Omer Meir Wellber and directed by Marco Gandini. Markus Werba, Karl Huml, Antonio Gares, Cameron Becker, Lavinia Bini, and Julia Rutigliano star.
Performance Dates: Nov. 8 & 9, 2022
Verdi’s “La Traviata“ will be conducted by Carlo Goldstein and directed by Mario Pontiggia. Nino Machaidze and Jessica Nuccio share the title role alongside Nicola Alaimo, Francesco Vultaggio, and Saimir Pirgu.
Performance Dates: Jan. 17-24, 2023
Michele Pertusi, René Barbera, Giuliana Gianfaldoni, and Markus Werba lead Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” with Michele Spotti conducting the production by Damiano Michieletto.
Performance Dates: Feb. 17-23, 2023
Lorenzo Passerini conducts Bellini’s “Norma” with Ugo Giacomazzi and Luigi Di Gangi directing. Marina Rebeka and Desirée Rancatore will share the title role.
Performance Dates: April 16-23, 2023
Director Omer Meir Wellber conducts Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” with Johannes Erath directing. Carmen Giannattasio, Natalia Tanasii, Ekaterina Sergeeva, Artur Rucinski, Nikolai Zemlianskikh, Saimir Pirgu, and Giorgi Manoshvili lead the cast.
Performance Dates: May 19-25, 2023
The company will go on tour with “La bohème” and “La Traviata.”

Christoph Willibald Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” will be conducted by Gabriele Ferro.

Riccardo Muti and Chiara Muti team up for Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.” The cast will include Luca Micheletti, Maria Grazia Schiavo, Mariangela Sicilia, Giovanni Sala, Alessandro Luongo, Francesca Di Sauro, Leon Košavić, and Vittorio De Campo.

Concert
The company will have a Requiem for the victims of the Mafia with Alessandro Cadario conducting Desirée Rancatore, Giulio Pelligra, Raffaella Lupinacci, and Roberto Scandiuzzi.

Ben Glassberg and Enea Scala perform alongside the Orchestra and Coro of the Teatro Massimo.
