Nina Stemme & Sarah Traubel Highlight New CD/DVD Releases (Week of March 2)

By Francisco Salazar

This week sees the release of two debut albums and a special performance of “Die Walküre.”

Mélodies

Adriana Gonzalez releases her first album on Audaux Records accompanied by pianist Iñaki Encina Oyón, who is well known for performing neglected and unknown repertoire. The album will delve into early 20th-century French Mélodie with a focus on the exceptional expressive qualities of husband and wife composers Robert Dussaut and Hélène Covatti.

The album is set to be released on CD and streaming platforms.

Die Walküre

Opus Arte releases Wagner’s epic from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Sir Antonio Pappano conducts Keith Warner’s staging with Nina Stemme in her signature Brünnhilde.

John Lundgren sings Wotan while Stuart Skelton is Siegmund and Dame Sarah Connolly takes on Fricka. The cast is rounded on this release by Emily Magee as Sieglinde and Lise Davidsen.

Arias for Josepha

German soprano Sarah Traubel pays musical tribute to the 18th century coloratura world star Josepha Hofer in her first solo album. The new album will showcase arias from Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” as well as five world premiere recordings of arias by Jacob Haibel, Franz Xaver
Süßmayr, Vincenzo Righini, Peter von Winter, and Paul Wranitzky.

The CD will also include music by Benedikt Schack and Franz Xaver Gerl. The soprano is joined by the PKF-Prague Philharmonia under the baton of Jochen Rieder and mezzosoprano Deniz Uzun makes a special appearance in a duet from Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito.”
