Nina Stemme Earns Major Distinction at Vienna State Opera

Soprano Nina Stemme was named an honorary member of the Vienna State Opera following a performance of “Lohengrin” on April 23, 2023.

The soprano, who was performing the role of Ortrud in the production, was previously awarded with the distinction of Kammersängerin at the Bayerische Staatsoper back in August of 2022.

Stemme was a winner of the Operalia Competiton back in 1993 and has a major international career that has seen her appear at every major opera house on the planet including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Swedish Opera, the Teatro alla Scala, Semperoper Dresden, Opernhaus Zürich, Teatro di San Carlo, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Opéra National de Paris, the Teatro Real de Madrid, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and the San Francisco Opera, among many others.

Next up for Stemme are performances of “Die Frau ohne Schatten” at the San Francisco Opera followed by more “Lohengrin” in Paris. She finishes up 2023 with “Jenufa” at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Among her scheduled performances for 2024 is a production of “Parsifal” at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
