By Dejan Vukosavljevic
Soprano Nina Stemme has made a last minute cancelation of “Tosca” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019.
In her stead, Soprano Karine Babajanyan will be performing alongside Fabio Sartori as Cavaradossi and Ambrogio Maestri as Scarpia. Donald C. Runnicles will conduct the performance.
Babajanyan was also the last minute replacement for Nina Stemme at the Wiener Staatsoper in June, when the celebrated Swedish soprano canceled due to indisposition. Babajanyan has performed in “Tosca” at Oper Leipzig, Staatsoper Hannover among others. She has also sung the roles of Minnie in “La Fanciulla del West” at Oper Leipzig, Cio-Cio-San in “Madama Butterfly” at Festival Pucciniano, Tore del Lago and Staatsoper Stuttgart, as well as Aida, Senta in “The Flying Dutchman,” Manon Lescaut, Mimì in “La Bohème” and Elisabetta di Valois in “Don Carlo” at the Staatsoper Hannover.
Stemme is still set to finish out the run of performances of “Tosca” on Nov. 20 and 23 before taking on “Tristan und Isolde,” also with the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
