Nicole Heaston, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Jamez McCorkle Headline Spoleto Festival USA 2023

Spoleto Festival USA has announced its 2023 season.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on vocal and operatic performances.

The company will present “Vanessa” at the Charleston Gaillard Center. The Barber opera will star Nicole Heaston, Zoie Reams, Edward Graves, Rosalind Plowright, and Malcolm MacKenzie. The opera is conducted by Timothy Myers and directed by Rodula Gaitanou.

Performance Dates: May 27 – June 10, 2023 

Anthony Roth Costanzo and Justin Vivian Bond will present their “Only an Octave Apart.” Zack Winokur directs with Thomas Bartlett conducting. The performance features arrangements by composer Nico Muhly.

Performance Dates: June 7 – 11, 2023

Anthony Roth Costanzo and tenor Paul Groves will perform in a concert entitled “Celebrating Geoff Nuttall.” Robert Spano leads a concert that features the countertenor in Golijov’s “The Fire Outlives the Spark. The showcase also includes music by Edgar, Haydn, and Tchaikovsky with such soloists as Livia Sohn, Alisia Weilerstein, and Stephen Prustman.

Anthony Roth Costanzo will also feature in the Spotelo Festival USA’s “Bank of America Chamber Music Series.”

Performance Dates: May 26 – June 11, 2023

Tenor Jamez McCorkle will present Schumann’s “Dichterliebe,” accompanying himself on the piano.

Performance Dates: May 26 – 30, 2023

The Spoleto Festival USA Chorus and Orchestra will perform Händel’s “Dixit Dominus” and Purcell’s “Te Deum Laudamus” and “Jubilate.” Joe Miller conducts.

Performance Dates: May 30, 2023

The Spoleto Festival USA Chorus and Orchestra will present Thomas Tallis’ “Spem in alium” as well as music by David Lang, Jonathan Dove, and Caroline Shaw, among others. Joe Miller conducts.

Performance Dates: June 7 & 8, 2023
