Nicole Car, Anna Pirozzi & Corinne Winters Lead Opéra de Lyon’s 2022-23 Season

The Opéra de Lyon has announced its 2022-23 season featuring opera, concerts, and ballet. here is a look at the vocal performances of the season.

Daniele Rustioni conducts the new production by David Hermann of Wagner’s “Tannhäuser.” The cast includes Simon O’Neill, Christoph Pohl, Robert Lewis, Pete Thanapat, Elena Guseva, and Irène Roberts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 11-30, 2022

Massenet’s “Hérodiade” will be performed in concert with Nicole Car, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Jean-François Borras, Étienne Dupuis, Nicolas Courjal, and Paweł Trojak. Daniele Rustioni conducts.

Performance Date: Nov. 23, 2022

Bernstein’s “Candide” will be conducted by Wayne Marshall and will star Paul Appleby, Jennifer France, Sean Michael Plumb, Thandiswa Mpongwana, Tichina Vaughn, Derek Welton, and Peter Hoare. Daniel Fish directs the new production.

Performance Dates: Dec. 16, 2022-Jan. 1, 2023

Michele Pertusi, Alex Esposito, Ruzil Gatin, and Mert Süngü lead a production of Rossini’s “Moïse et Pharaon.” Daniele Rustioni conducts the new production by Tobias Kratzer.

Performance Dates: Jan. 20-Feb. 1, 2023

Karine Locatelli conducts the new production of Britten’s “L’Arche de Noé.” Silvia Costa directs.

Performance Dates: Jan. 25-Feb. 4, 2023

Judith Chemla, Benoît Rameau, Jean-Yves Ruf, and Axel Bogousslavsky star in “Mélisande D’après Pelléas et Mélisande” by Maurice Maeterlinck and Claude Debussy. Florent Hubert conducts the new production by Richard Brunel.

Performance Dates: Feb. 28-March 5, 2023

Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” will be conducted by Alexandre Bloch and directed by Olivier Assayas. John Chest, Mandy Fredrich, Alexander Miminoshvili, and Elbenita Kajtazi star.

Performance Dates: March 17-April 4, 2023

Bartók’s “Le Château de Barbe-Bleue” will be conducted by Titus Engel and directed by Andriy Zholdak. Károly Szemerédy and Kai Rüütel star.

Performance Dates: March 18-April 2, 2023

Hagen Matzeit, Nicola Beller Carbone, Mélissa Petit, and Bo Skovhus lead “Bluthaus (La Maison du crime)” by Georg Friedrich Haas and Claudio Monteverdi. Peter Rundel conducts the production by Claus Guth.

Performance Dates: March 19-26, 2023

Leoš Janáček’s “Katia Kabanova” will get a new production by Barbara Wysocka starring Corinne Winters, Natascha Petrinsky, Adam Smith, Anton Rositsky, Thandiswa Mpongwana, Benjamin Hulett, and Willard White. Elena Schwarz conducts.

Performance Dates: April 28-May 13, 2023

Philippe Boesmans’s “On purge bébé !” will be conducted by Bassem Akiki and directed by Richard Brunel. Jean-Sébastien Bou, Jodie Devos, Julien Behr, Jérôme Varnier, Sophie Pondjiclis, and Tibor Ockenfels star.

Performance Dates: June 23-July 17, 2023

Concert

Daniele Rustioni and Sara Jakubiak team up for an evening of Strauss and Schoenberg.

Performance Date: Sept. 18, 2022

Chœurs a capella will be led by Benedict Kearns.

Performance Date: April 6, 2023

Verdi’s Requiem will star Anna Pirozzi, Ekaterina Gubanova, Saimir Pirgu, and Michele Pertusi. Daniele Rustioni conducts.
