The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that Italian baritone Nicola Alaimo will take over the title role in Donizetti and Ruffini’s opera “Don Pasquale,” replacing Erwin Schrott.

Alaimo will perform for the presentations on Oct. 13, 17, 21, and 24, 2020. The Italian baritone will join a cast that includes Dmitry Korchak in the role of Ernesto, Slávka Zámečniková as Norina, and Boris Pinkasovich as Doctor Malatesta.

Marco Armiliato will conduct the production by Irina Brook.

Nicola Alaimo recently performed the role of Giorgio Germont in Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Teatro Real, and the role of Dulcamara in Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” at the Wiener Staatsoper.

Schrott is still slated to perform in the role of Dulcamara in the run of “L’elisir d’amore” at the Opernhaus Zürich in October 2020.
