By David Salazar

The Teatro Real de Madrid has made a major casting change for its upcoming production of Verdi’s “Falstaff.”

Nicola Alaimo, who was originally scheduled to take on the title role of Falstaff, will no longer perform. Per Platea Magazine, the bass-baritone has canceled due to health reasons.

In his stead, the company has brought in two singers to share the dates – Roberto de Candia and Misha Kiria. The company’s official website has yet to clarify which dates the two artists will take on.

This production of Falstaff will be directed by Laurent Pelly and will be conducted by Daniele Rustioni. It will also star Joel Prieto, Albert Casals, Christophe Mortagne, Mikeldi Atxalandabaso, Valeriano Lanchas, Rebecca Evans, Raquel Lojendio, Simone Piazzola, Angel Odena, Ruth Iniesta, Rocío Pérez, Daniela Barcellona, Teresa Iervolino, Maite Beaumont, and Gemma Coma-Albert.

The opera runs from April 23-May 8, 2019.
