Nicholas Braithwaite Appointed Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s Conductor Laureate

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of English conductor Nicholas Braithwaite as its Conductor Laureate.

Braithwaite studied at the Royal Academy of Music, the Festival masterclasses in Bayreuth, and with Hans Swarowsky in Vienna. He has held positions as Music Director and Chief Conductor of Gothenberg’s Stora Teater, Music Director of Glyndebourne Touring Opera and Associate Principal Conductor of English National Opera.

He has conducted over 80 operas, and has performed with the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Staatsoper Hamburg, Semperoper Dresden, Den Norske Opera, State Opera of South Australia, Opera Australia and New Zealand Opera, among others.

Braithwaite has also appeared with the leading world’s orchestras, including the Orchestre National de Belgique, Orchestre National de France, the Oslo Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, Odense Symphony, Aarhus Symphony, Aalborg Symphony, New Zealand Symphony, Auckland Philharmonia, Melbourne Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Queensland Orchestra, West Australian Symphony, Danish National Radio Symphony and the Collegium Musicum Copenhagen, among many others.
