New Zealand Opera Unveils 2025 Season

New Zealand Opera has unveiled its 2025 season.

First up is “Summer of Opera,” two concerts in the park starring Joanna Foote, Sarah Mileham, Taylor Wallbank, Joel Amosa, and Alfred Fonoti-Fuimaono. David Kelly accompanies at the piano.

Performance Date: Jan. 25 & Feb. 1, 2025 (Auckland)

There will be special performances of “L’Elisir d’Amore” at the Hamilton Arts Festival starring Ipu Laga’aia, Sarah Mileham, Alfred Fonoti-Fuimaono, and Tomairangi Henare. Peter Walls conducts.

Performance Date: March 2, 2025 (Hamilton)

Following that is a revival of “Mansfield Park,” directed by Rebecca Meltzer. The opera stars Michaela Cadwgan, Robert Tucker, Kristin Darragh, Joel Amosa, Andrea Creighton, Joanna Foote, Sarah Mileham, Taylor Wallbank, and Andrew Grenon.

Performance Date: April 1-3, 2025 (Christchurch), April 5 & 6, 2025 (Dunedin)

Next up is “La Bohème” starring Elena Perroni, Ji-Min Park, Emma Pearson, Samuel Dundas, Benson Wilson, and Robert Tucker.

Performance Date: May 29 – June 6, 2025 (Auckland), June 18 – 22, 2025 (Wellington), July 2 -6, 2025 (Christchurch)

Capping the season is “The Monster in the Maze” by Jonathan Dove and Alasdair Middleton. The opera debuted in 2014 and has been performed in multiple languages across 20 productions. Anapela Polataivao ONZM will direct in her company debut. Sarah Castle and Joel Amosa star.

Performance Date: Sept. 5-6, 2025 (Christchurch), Sept. 12-13, 2025 (Wellington),  Sept. 19-20, 2025 (Auckland)
