New York Opera Fest Unveils Virtual 2020 Lineup
By Logan MartellThe New York Opera Alliance, with support from OPERA America, has announced its 2020 New York Virtual Opera Fest, in accordance with social distancing regulations set by the state government. The lineup is set to feature new works, recorded performances, interviews, discussions and more, in bringing the opera community together in a time of great unrest.
In its commitment to aiding artists, NYOA will also be providing resources for financial aid, which can be found here.

Events for June include:
Opera Lafayette’s artistic director Ryan Brown will conclude a weekly series of discussions, focused on the company’s recordings of Gaveaux and Beethoven’s “Leonore.” Hosted on Zoom, with calls being held every Monday.
Broadcast Date: June 1, 2020.
“Lady M soirees” with Heartbeat Opera. Described as “an online fantasia of Verdi’s ‘Macbeth’ through the eyes of Lady Macbeth, opera’s most thrilling anti-heroine.” Sessions are 60-minutes each, and tickets are $30 per household.
Broadcast Dates: June 3, 4, 5, 6.
HERE Arts Center will host a Facebook watch party titled “HERE@HOME” where they will stream a full-length production every Wednesday, drawing upon the last 25 years of company recordings. These videos will be available on their Facebook page after they premiere.
Broadcast Dates: June 3, 10, 17, 24, etc.
Beth Morrison Projects will feature an “Opera of the Week” every Thursday on the company’s website, with videos being made free to watch for one week after premiering.
Broadcast Dates: June 4, 11, 18, 25, etc.
New Camerata Opera will present its new opera, “Julie,” directed by Chloe Treat, scored by Whitney George and libretto by Wallis Drake. The film will premiere on YouTube before it is submitted to upcoming film festivals.

No Dominion Theatre Company will host a “Virtual Story Slam!” on its Facebook page every Thursday. This series, co-hosted by Art House Productions will celebrate the power of story-telling and human connection.
Broadcast Dates: June 4, 11, 18, 25, etc.
City Lyric Opera continues their Summer Series with a “Holding Space” virtual salon conversation for the opera community to share and discuss their experiences in the ongoing pandemic.
Broadcast Dates: June 11, 23.
Rhymes with Opera will hold a series of free contemporary chamber operas, interviews, new works, and more.
Broadcast Dates: June 18, 20.
