New York City Opera to Present ‘Romeo and Juliet’ at Bryant Park

The New York City Opera is set to conclude its Bryant Park summer series with Gounod’s “Romeo and Juliet” on Sept. 8, 2023.

The opera will be conducted by Maestro Joseph Rescigno and accompanied by members of the City Opera Orchestra.

Shayna Leahy will direct the production which will star Victor Starsky, Joanna Mongiardo, Alex Boyd, Amy Maude Helfer, Drew Seigla, Melanie Ashkar, Phil Cokorinos, and Billy Van Horn.

In a statement, Michael Capasso, the company’s General Manager said, “We are delighted to return as a part Bryant Park Picnic Performances presented by Bank of America for the 8th consecutive year. Our increasingly elaborate productions have drawn thousands of New Yorkers and tourists for free. It is truly ‘The People’s Opera.’”

For anyone unable to attend in person, free livestream broadcasts of the performances will be available nationwide via Bryant Park’s website and social media platforms.
