New York City Opera Sets Casting Notice For ‘As One’

The New York City Opera and American Opera Projects are teaming up to cast the upcoming production of “As One.”

The opera, which is set to be performed at the New York company in May is searching for a singer who can portray the mezzo part of Hannah. In a press statement, the company noted that the singer must have “Strong acting skills, comic timing and the ability to move – both physically and vocally.” The company also noted that it is looking for “cisgender and transgender singers. We greatly encourage transgender singers to audition.”

“As One” has steadily become one of the most performed 21st-century operas as it has been produced at the Cincinnati Opera, West Edge Opera, Hawaii Opera Theatre, Seattle Opera, Urban Arias, and Opera Colorado among others.

“As One” is set to have its NYC Opera premiere on May 30 and will be performed five times.
