By Francisco Salazar

The New York City Opera is launching a video series spoofing opera arias with lyrics about the coronavirus.

In a press release Michael Capasso noted that the idea was to create “A lighthearted look at the current reality. We hope to have one per week while the Quarantine lasts.”

The first video released is a spoof on the famous “O Mio Babbino Caro” entitled “QuarantAlia: Ode to Governor Cuomo” and featuring soprano Lianne Gennaco and pianist Kathryn Olander. The text was written by Capasso and Bill Van Horn.

The company is also hoping to stream legendary performances for audiences as the quarantine continues.

More news is set to be announced in the coming weeks.
