New York Choral Society to Stream ‘Peace unto Zion’

By Francisco Salazar

The New York Choral Society is currently streaming “Peace unto Zion,” the first production of its “Our Voices” innovative 2020-21 season.

The production is a distinctive collaboration among an arranger of Shaker hymns and a sculptor who captures the range of emotions she’s experienced throughout her spirited life.

“Peace unto Zion” features artwork from Joyce McDonald and Kevin Siegfried’s arrangements of “Peace” for acapella chorus.

McDonald is a multidisciplinary artist, focused on sculpture and painting. She has been featured in the New York Times, and has participated in a number of group shows including “AIDS at Home” at the Museum of the City of New York, “Everyday” at La Mama Galleria, “PERSONS OF INTEREST” at the Bureau of General Services–Queer Division, and “HIV+WOMEN+ART” at Puffin Foundation Gallery, among others.

Siegfried is a leading composer whose works have been performed by the American Masterpieces Choral Festival, Llangollen International Musical Eistoddfod (Wales), Minnesota Beethoven Festival, and the St. Magnus International Festival (Scotland).
