The Vienna State Opera has announced that its upcoming performance of Wagner’s“Parsifal,” set to be recorded on April 11, 2021 will now be streamed on April 18, 2021 on Arte Konzert.

The opera will be directed by Kirill Serebrennikov with Jonas Kaufmann in the title role alongside Ludovic Tézier as Amfortas, and Elīna Garanča as Kundry. The remaining cast members include Georg Zeppenfeld as Gurnemanz, Wolfgang Koch as Klingsor, and Stefan Cerny as Titurel. The production will be conducted by Philippe Jordan.

This production is a memorial to the pandemic,” Serebrennikov told journalists according to the Salzburger Nachrichten, which added that the production takes place in prison. The director has apparently been under house arrest  for “long time and was sentenced to a suspended sentence the previous year.”

The live stream was originally scheduled for April 1, 2021 but was postponed following a positive COVID-19 case. As a result of that positive test, rehearsals were postponed and the entire production was put on a temporary hold.
