New Orleans Opera Announces Spring Lecture Series ‘ALLONS!’

By David Salazar

New Orleans Opera has announced a new Spring lecture series.

The four lectures, which continue the “ALLONS!” series that kicked off last Fall, will all be hosted by General Director Clare Burovac. All events will take place via Zoom.

“Opera is a centuries-old art form that has survived many trials including war, the Great Depression, and shifts in popular culture,” said Burovac in a press release. “We are committed to preserving the tradition of opera in New Orleans and are pleased to present this series in addition to our live and virtual performances this Spring.”

The first lecture, focusing on “Marian Anderson,” will take place on March 4, 2021. It will be led by Givonna Joseph, co-founder of OperaCréole.

A week later, on March 11, Brian Morgan will lead a discussion on Norman Treigle. On March 25, Sakinah Davis, Assistant Professor of Voice and Director of Opera Workshop at Xavier University, will shine a spotlight on “Fire Shut Up in My Bones.”

The Spring series comes to a close with Artist in Residence at Xavier University Wilfred Delphin, composer Dan Shore, and singer Dara Rahming taking on “Freedom Ride.”
