New National Theatre, Tokyo Launches New Streaming Service

The New National Theatre, Tokyo will launch “NNTT at Home,” a new streaming service, on April 10, 2020.

The service will offer up one performance of a full-length opera per week starting with a 2018 production of “Die Zauberflöte.” The Mozart Opera was performed in October 2018 as the season opening showcase; the production, which was conducted by Roland Böer and directed by William Kentridge, started Sava Vemic, Steve Davislim, Yasui Yoko, Hayashi Masako, Andrè Schuen, Kushima Kanae, and Masujima Tadahiro. It will be available until April 17, 2020.

The company will then present Puccini’s final opera “Turandot” in a production by Alex Ollé conducted by Ono Kazushi. The opera, which was performed on July 20, 2019, starred Iréne Theorin, Teodor Ilincai, and Nakamura Eri. It will be available between April 17-24, 2020.

To cap the month of April, the company will present “Eugene Onegin,” which was performed on Oct. 1, 2019 in a production by Dmitry Bertman conducted by Andriy Yurkevych. It starred Evgenia Muraveva, Vasily Ladyuk, and Pavel Kolgatin. It will be available between April 24-May 1, 2020.
