New Music USA has announced the selection of 100 organizational awardees as part of the 2022 Organizational Development Fund. Each organization will receive, on average, $6,780.00.

A panel of 21 artists, creators, musicians, and administrators selected the 100 recipients from a pool of 392 applicants. To knock bias out of the selection process, 76 percent of panelists identified as women and 38 percent as BIPOC.

In spring 2022, New Music USA distributed $335,000 in funds to 112 creators through its Creator Development Fund. The two programs reflect New Music USA’s commitment to supporting 100 creators and 100 organizations in honor of its 10th anniversary.

Five of the 100 awardees were opera organizations: American Lyric Theater, The American Opera Project, Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts-CAAPA, Guerilla Opera, and Opera on Tap.

American Lyric Theater (ALT) – New York, NY: Funds will support the commission of three new operas from Resident Artists in the company’s Composer Librettist Development Program.

The American Opera Project – Brooklyn, NY: New Music USA’s award will go towards artist fees for workshops of projects in AOP’s opera-incubator, First Chance.

Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts-CAAPA (Fort Washington, MD) is uniquely positioned in the world of classical music and opera. The Coalition’s mission is dedicated to “Bringing Color to the Classics”™ in support of Black classical musicians, youth, senior citizens, opera singers, and others in the performing arts.

Guerilla Opera (Haverhill, MA) will use its award to aid in supporting Guerilla Opera Staff, allowing them to root more in the art and focus on supporting its artists and creators during their process.

Opera on Tap (Brooklyn, NY) will use the New Music USA award to support its development activities for new music projects, including the Immersive Opera Project and New Brew.
