New England Conservatory to Stream New Video Production of ‘Dialogue of the Carmelites’

New England Conservatory’s Opera Studies is set to stream Poulenc’s “Dialogue of the Carmelites” on June 23 and 24, 2021.

The showcase was recorded in English at the Boston-based institution’s Plimpton Shattuck Black Box Theatre with piano accompaniment. Audiences can check out the operas for free via the NEC official website.

Joshua Major directed the production which includes two casts. The first cast for the June 23 showcase stars Angela Yam as Blanche, Raji Venkat as Constance, Erica Brookhyser as Madame de Croissy, Ana Mora as Mère Marie, Margaret Malone as Madame Lidoine, Lizzy Stant as Soeur Mathilde, Andrew Stack as the Marquis and Dr. Javelinot, Anthony León as Chevalier, Samuel Rosner as L’Aumônier, Matthew Christopher in several roles and Josaphat Contreras as Thierry and the 1st commissioner.

The June 24 cast features Michaela Kelly as Blanche, Sara Buggy as Constance, Alysson Bennett as Madame Lidoine, Darby Clinard as Mère Marie, Samuel Rosner as Chevalier, and Philippe L’Esperance as Chevalier. The other roles feature the same artists as the June 23 show.

The production also features Chihiro Asano, Marina Beeson, Brittany Bryant, Marissa Fieland, Molly Flynn, Lauren Guthridge, Emma Robertson, Katherine Skafidas, Huanhuan Xie as nuns.

Michael Strauss and Daniel Wyneken both prepared music and performed at the piano. BallSquare films recorded the video.
