New England Conservatory to Present ‘Embracing Coretta’

The New England Conservatory is set to present “Embracing Coretta” on Oct. 30, 2023.

The event will honor the 70th anniversary of the graduation of Coretta Scott King, the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a series of narrations, art songs, and spirituals.

The performance will include the world premiere of “Dear Coretta,” a song by J. Jakari Rush based on a love letter from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to Coretta in 1952, and centers on Black artists and composers. Performers include Sarah Joyce CooperNeil Nelson, Melissa Joseph, and Daon Drisdom.

The showcase kicks off at 7:30 p.m. but there will be a 20-minute guided tour through significant locations that Dr. King and Coretta experienced together starting at 6 p.m.
