New Camerata Opera’s 2019-20 Season To Feature Zarzuela, Libby Larsen Piece

The New Camerata Opera has announced its 2019-20 season.

The company will open with its traditional Black & White Gala at Open Jar Studios in Time Square. The event will feature performances from the company’s co-founders with Pianist Eric Sedgwick as music director.

Performance Date: Sept. 24, 2019

The company will then showcase the zarzuela “El Barbero de Sevilla” at the Teatro LATEA under the musical direction of Pablo Zinger. Rod Gomez will direct the production.

Performance Dates: Oct. 2019

The company will then present “Barnum’s Bird,” a work by Libby Larsen under the direction of Jennifer Williams.

Performance Dates: May 2020

Additionally, the company has announced new projects for its CamerataWorks division and Camerata Piccola. CamerataWorks will create a short film based on the life of Julie d’Aubigny by composer Whitney George and libretty Lila Palmer.

Finally, Camerata Piccola will showcase three operas for children, including “Party at the Opera,” “Peter Rabbit,” and “Rumpelstiltskin.”
