Nevill Holt Opera’s Artistic Director Nicholas Chalmers Resigns

By Chris Ruel

Things are happening at England’s Nevill Holt Opera. Today it was announced that the company’s Artistic Director, Nicholas Chalmers, has stepped down unexpectedly after ten years at the company. Also today, Nevill Holt announced changes to its summer festival lineup.

In a statement on Twitter, Nicholas wrote, “It has been an immense pleasure and privilege to be Artistic Director of Nevill Holt Opera over the last ten years. However, I have now made the decision to step down from the role. I feel the time is right for me to move on to new challenges.

“I wish the Company, its devoted staff and all who have followed us every success. I am aware that Nevill Holt Opera has today released a statement about the content of the 2023 season. I have played no part in these decisions and they are a separate matter to that of my resignation. I hope that I can collaborate with the artists, orchestras and creatives in another capacity in the near future. I stand with them in solidarity in these challenging times”

Chalmers did not disclose the next phase of his career.
