NEMPAC Opera Project Moves Forward With 9th Season

By David Salazar

NEMPAC Opera Project has announced that it will present its 9th season “Pop-Up Opera: In the Streets of Boston’s Little Italy” on Saturday, June 6, 2020.

The event will start at 1 p.m. and end at 4:45 p.m. with the company moving around the area, performing highlights from Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at such venues as Lovejoy Wharf, the Prado Fountain, Table 77 Balcony, North Square Park, The Paul Revere Mall, and Charter Street Park.

Among those performing are tenor Wes Hunter, mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Kinder, and baritone Gray Leiper. Katie Barr will perform at the piano.

“Imagine our barber, Figaro, singing in front of our community staples like LoGrasso’s about how they give a great smooth shave there, or our lovebirds, Rosina and the Count, singing around the fountain at the Paul Revere Mall allowing all our neighbors at NEMPAC to watch their love story unfold from the comfort of their own window or park bench,” said Artistic Director Alexandra Dietrich on the official website. “This is truly a chance for NEMPAC Opera Project to reframe how we watch opera and connect our community through music and laughter after this time of isolation.”
