Nationaltheater Mannheim Extends Intendant’s Contract Through 2028

The Nationaltheater Mannheim has extended the contract of its Intendant Albrecht Pulhmann until 2028.

Puhlmann started his tenure with the company in 2016-17, taking over for Klaus-Peter Kehr. During Puhlmann’s tenure, there has been an emphasis on early operatic works as well as new operas.

He was previously extended in 2019 with his current contract set to expire in 2024.

Prior to his time at the Mannheim theater, Puhlmann was also artistic director at the Stuttgart State Opera between 2006 and 2011; he held the same position at the Hanover State Opera between 2001-06. He was also opera dramaturg at Theater Basel between 1988-93 and collaborated with such organizations as the Opera de la Monnaie and the Holland Festival in intervening years. Between 1996-2001 he was a director and chief dramaturg at the Basel Opera.
