Natalya Romaniw, Toby Spence & Christine Rice To Feature In Garsington Opera’s 2020 Season

The Garsington Opera has announced its 2020 season which will feature four staged operas including two repertory staples and two rarities. Here is a look.

Verdi and Romani’s “Un giorno di regno” gets a new staging by Christopher Alden with Tobias Ringborg conducting. Richard Burkhard, Henry Waddington, Christine Rice, Siobhan Stagg, Konu Kim, and Grant Doyle star in the production.

Performance Dates: May 28-July 15, 2020

Tim Albery directs Mozart and Cigna-Santi’s “Mitridate, re di Ponto” with conductor Clemens Schuldt leading a cast that includes Robert Murray in the title role, Elizabeth Watts, Mary Bevan, Tim Mead, Jennifer France, and Colin Judson.

Performance Dates: May 29-July 2, 2o20

Natalya Romaniw sings the title role in Dvořák and Kvapil’s “Rusalka” with Michael Boyd directing and Douglas Boyd conducting. The cast also includes Gerard Schneider, Robert Hayward, Sky Ingram, Patricia Bardon, Colin Judson, and Grace Durham.

Performance Dates: June 14-July 18, 2020

The final opera of the season will be Beethoven and Sonnleithner’s “Fidelio” in celebration of the composer’s 250th anniversary. Toby Spence sings the role of Florestan while Johanni van Oostrum takes on Lenore. Gérard Korsten makes his Garsington conducting debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra with a cast that also includes Joshua Bloom, David Soar, Galina Averina, Llŷr Grifths, and Will Thomas.

Performance Dates: June 25- July 17, 2020
