Nashville Symphony Faces Financial Struggles
By Francisco SalazarThe Nashville Symphony is facing grave financial struggles stating it “doesn’t have sufficient cash on hand to sustain operations at its current level.”
The orchestra confirmed the issues to WSMV in a statement co-signed by President and CEO Mark Cantrell and Board Chair Teresa Sebastian, saying the organization is “developing a restructuring plan designed to stabilize the organization and position it for stronger, more sustainable financial footing going forward and to emerge as a healthier, more resilient institution.”
The statement continued, “The Nashville Symphony is one of Nashville’s most vital cultural institutions, and our board and staff are united in a shared commitment to protecting its future. We are working urgently and collaboratively to chart the right path forward.”
The Nashville Symphony has struggled for years as it went through rounds of layoffs in 2024 and 2025. It is also the latest orchestra dealing with issues after the San Francisco Opera Orchestra went on strike and the Cleveland Orchestra also took strike measures. The Dayton Orchestra also authorized a strike due to no contract.
