Nashville Opera to Present ‘Rigoletto Noir’

Nashville Opera is set to present “Rigoletto Noir” on April 7 and 9, 2022.

The production, which was canceled twice because of the pandemic, will star Aleksey Bogdanov in the title role with Sarah Coburn as Gilda and Daniel Montenegro as the Duke. Rounding out the cast will be Kevin Thompson in the role of Sparafucile. Per the company’s official press statement, all four singers will be making their company debuts with this work.

The production will include a film-noir short created by Penumbra Entertainment as part of the Nashville Opera Noir Film Festival, which invited teams to create short films to play during the prelude for the Verdi work.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the Nashville Opera,” said Jason Padgitt, Executive Director of Nashville Film Festival, in an official statement. “By introducing a challenge that blends film noir and opera into something new, we hope to inspire filmmakers to explore the dark alleys of their creativity.”
