Nadezhda Karyazina & Maxim Emelyanychev Awarded Herbert von Karajan Prize

The Herbert von Karajan Prize, endowed with a total of EUR 50,000 and donated by the Karajan family, has been awarded to mezzo-soprano Nadezhda Karyazina and conductor Maxim Emelyanychev.

The prizes were given out at the Salzburg Easter Festival.

Karyazina made her debut at the 2025 Salzburg Easter Festival in “Khovanschina” and has performed with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Semperoper Dresden, Opernhaus Zürich, Teatro Real Madrid, Bayerische Staatsoper, Palau de les Arts Valencia, and Glyndebourne Festival.

Meanwhile, Emelyanychev is a conductor who was appointed Principal Conductor of the orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro, with which he has since toured the world. He has conducted at the Teatro de la Maestranza, Royal Opera House,  and many orchestras, including the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and Berliner Philharmoniker. Since 2019, he has been the Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
