Myrtò Papatanasiu To Replace Christine Rice At Royal Opera House

Christine Rice has withdrawn from the role of Donna Elvira in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the Royal Opera House.

The company announced that due to personal reasons the soprano would not be able to sing the upcoming revival.  As a result, Greek soprano Myrtò Papatanasiu will take over the role making her Royal Opera debut.

Papatanisiu recently performed Donna Elvira in Barcelona and the role of Donna Anna at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Paris and the Vienna State Opera. She has also performed with Opera Vlaanderen, Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, Opéra de Montpellier, Theater an der Wien, Paris Opéra, Stuttgart Opera, Athens Epidaurus Festival, and the Metropolitan Opera.

The soprano joins a cast that includes Erwin Schrott, Roberto Tagliavini, Malin Byström, Daniel Behle, Louise Alder, Leon Košavić, and Petros Magoulas. Performances are set for Sept. 13 through Oct. 10, 2019 with the Oct. 8 transmitted live in cinemas.
