Myrtò Papatanasiu & Monica Zanettin to Star in La Monnaie’s New ‘Tosca’

La Monnaie in Belgium is set to present a new production of Puccini’s “Tosca” starting on June 11, 2021.

The production will be conducted by Alain Altinoglu and will star Myrtò  Papatanasiu and Monica Zanettin in the title role with Pavel Černoch and Andrea Carè sharing the role of Cavaradossi. As Scarpia, audineces will get a chance to hear either Laurent Naouri or Dmitris Tilliakos.

Other cast members include Sava Vemic as Cesare Angelotti, Riccardo Novaro as Il sagrestano, Ed Lyon as Spoletta,Kamil Ben Hsaïn Lachiri as Sciarrone, Logan Lopez Gonalez as Pastorello, and Kurt Gysen as un Carceriere.

The production will be directed by Spanish auteur Rafael R. Villalobos who will be making his company debut. His approach to the opera will focus on how faith in God can be used as a political weapon.

The production will run for 14 total performances through July 2, 2021. This “Tosca” is a co-production with Opéra de Montpellier, Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla.
