Musica Viva NY Announces ‘Bachmaninoff’ Online Concert

Musica Viva NY is set to present the online concert “Bachmaninoff: Spirituality and Beauty in Bach and Rachmaninoff” on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020.

The program will features songs for voice and piano by Rachmaninoff including “Vocalise,” “As Fair as Day in Blaze of Noon,” “Oh, Stay my love, forsake me not!,” “The Lilacs,” and “When Silent Night Doth Hold Me.” Soloists include Erik Anstine, Shabnam Abedi, James Dargan, Chloë Schaaf, Nathan Siler, and Jianing Zhang.

The songs will alternate with movements from the Suite No. 4 in E-flat major, BWV 1010 for solo cello by J.S. Bach. The program will then conclude with a performance of “Bogoroditse Devo” from Rachmaninoff’s “All-Night Vigil” featuring the entire choir.

Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez will perform at the piano with Alan Richard appearing on the cello.
