Music Worcester Continues ‘The Complete Bach’ Project

By Afton Markay

Music Worcester is set to present the second year of its “The Complete Bach” project.

Over the course of 11 years, Music Worcester will present live performances of every known work by Johann Sebastian Bach. The project is believed to be the first intentional festival to present all of Bach’s known works within a defined period of time.

This installment will feature more than 40 different works from Bach’s catalog over the course of 11 concerts. Vocal works will be performed at the BACHtoberfest Weekend, held from Oct. 24-26, which will feature the “Cantatas” BWV 29, 41, and 190 presented by the BACHtoberfest Choir. Later, Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio” will be performed by the Worcester Chorus with the Winchendon Players on Jan. 24. Emmanuel Music will perform the “Solo Cantatas,” BWV 60, 158, and 199 on Feb. 21, 2026.

During Cantatathon 2026, “Cantatas” BWV 3, 14, 121, 144, and 124 will be presented by the First Baptist Church Choir, Salisbury Singers, the Voices of Concinnity and Consanare Choral Community, and the Worcester Children’s Chorus. This final concert will take place on March 22, 2026.

Along with concert performances The Complete Bach project also features a podcast and video series led by Chris Shepard, the Ruth Susan Westheimer Artistic Director of “The Complete Bach.” The series includes conversations between Shepard and participating musicians as well as audio program notes for each concert posted in advance of the performances.

In a press release, Shepard said, “The first year of TCB exceeded all of our expectations, and we were particularly thrilled that so many audience members came from far and wide to be a part of this history-making project.”
