Music Theatre Now Competition 2023 Names Six Laureates

The Music Theatre Now Competition 2023 has named its six winners.

This year’s recipients include “The Urban Tale of a Hippo,” “Black Lodge,” “At Your Doorstep,” “Woman at Point Zero,” “Halleluja,” and “History of the Present.”

“The Urban Tale of a HIppo is a Lithuanian production by  Kokoras, Katinas, Vapaavuori, Nakaitė, Synaesthesis & Operomanija.

Meanwhile, David T. Little’s “Black Lodge” was produced by Beth Morrison Projects in the U.S. “At Your Doorstep” is a production by Market Theatre Foundation and Theater Bielefeld from South Africa and Germany.

Woman at Point Zero” was produced by Laila Soliman, Bushra El-Turk, Stacy Hardy & LOD in Egypt, the U.K., and Belgium. The Belgian production “Halleluja” was created by Fleur Khani and the Khani Foundation.

Finally, “History of the Present,” hailing from Northern Ireland, the U.K., and the U.S., was produced by Maria Fusco and Margaret Salmon.

The jury was comprised of Sarah Crabtree of the Royal Opera House, Tiso Ho of the Hong Kong Arts Festival, Marlene Le Roux of South Africa, and Andrea Caruso Saturnino of the Teatro Municipal, São Paulo.
