Music of the Americas is set to celebrate Daniel Catán’s “Florencia en el Amazonas” on Nov. 28, 2023 at Americas Society in New York.

The evening, which kicks off at 7 p.m. local time, will feature a conversation with João MacDowell, the artistic director of the International Brazilian Opera Company, followed by performances by Gabriella Reyes, Mario Chang, and Nelson Ebo.

Brad Moore will accompany the artists on the piano as they take on excerpts from “Florencia en el Amazonas” as well as MacDowell’s “The Seventh Seal.”

The event is presented in collaboration with the Metropolitan Opera and IBOC. The Met recently opened a production of “Florencia en el Amazonas,” the first time the company has ever presented an opera by a Latin American composer and the first time in nearly a century since Spanish-language opera was given a shot on the Met stage. Reyes and Chang are both starring in the current Met Opera production.
