Music at Co-Cath Presents ‘Bach’s Messiah’
By Afton MarkayMusic at Co-Cath (MACC) continues its “The Unity Series” with a holiday concert titled “Bach’s Messiah.”
The MACC Ensemble performs Johann Sebastian Bach’s Motets and selections from his Christmas “Oratorio.” Composer in Residence, Santiago Gutiérrez’s original overture will open the concert and provide an ornamental prelude to Bach’s classic works.
Dr. Alejandro Zuleta, who will conduct, said in a press release, “We are thrilled to share the timeless beauty of Bach’s music during this special time of year, as we curate his works to tell the nativity story. ‘Bach’s Messiah’ allows us to reflect on the themes of joy, hope, and renewal, which are central to our season and to the unity we aim to foster through music.” Talia Feldberg serves as stage director.
Concerts are set for Dec. 20 and 21, at 7:30 pm, at the Co-Cathedral of Saint Joseph in New York.
