Munich Philharmonic Shows Solidarity with Metropolitan Opera Orchestra

By Francisco Salazar

The Munich Philharmonic is showing solidarity with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

In a tweet responding to the Vienna Philharmonic’s open letter, the orchestra said, “We want to join the Vienna Philharmonic in expressing our solidarity with our fellow orchestra colleagues at Met Orchestra in New York!”

The orchestra is the latest entity to throw its support behind the Metropolitan Opera following Riccardo Muti’s open letter, ICSOM, AGMA, and the Vienna Philharmonic.

The Met Orchestra has been out of work since the Metropolitan Opera shut its doors on March 12. The orchestra has not been paid and has not received any benefits. Recently the orchestra began a fundraising campaign and the Wagner Society donated $5,000 to the players. The orchestra is also performing virtual concerts with a recent showcase featuring famed soprano Angela Gheorghiu.
